What do you do if a customer asks for help and your shift is over/almost over?

Assist the customer by either answering their questions, showing them the item they are looking for or taking them to another associate who can assist them.

I would gladly help them to the best of my abilities, because I would want them to feel important and if I didn’t help them I would feel bad, if I got in trouble for staying later than I should have I would explain the situation to my manager and take the consequences knowing that I helped someone in need.
