(just a tip on fast mental math) 8ths, 16ths and 32nds (maybe 64ths) come up quite frequently. I find that the best way to not confuse yourself while doing speed math is to do in numbers out of 100. In the case of this problem: You should know that 100/8 is 12.5 (from your multiplication tables 8*12 = 96, etc) 1/16 is one half of 1/8. Thus you should be thinking 12.5/2 = 6.25. Then divide by 100. Add 1 (since its 1 and 1/16) 1.0625

Or think of it this way: 5/8=10/16...1016+7/16=17/16= 1 1/16 Because it's a decimal we all know 1/8=.125 so 1/16=.0625 Answer: 1.0625

The answer is 17/16 or 1 1/16 Now they asked for that to a decimal. I calculated this in a step by step process. First I calculated 1/2 as .5 and half of 1/2 = 1/4 as .25 and so on... The answer is 1.0625
