I was not expecting such a simplistic question during an interview for a position containing the word "Advanced." A hard drive is one or several spinning platters utilizing mechanical parts susceptible to shock and with generally shorter lifespans, but with higher storage capabilities; SSDs are solid-state storage relying exclusively upon transistors and flash memory to provide lower storage capacities with significantly higher performance, longer lifespan, and greater durability.
