My comment on this is that when such a general question like this is asked, expect to get a general answer that is essentially what is normal expected. Don't ask this question and then be surprised that the person states they want to be successful and seek opportunities for growth in the role. If the position has no upward mobility, then ask a question that indicates, "would you be willing to take on this role if it does not have a path to advancement or promotion?" That lets the interviewee know that this is a job that is maybe stable but is not a position that would prepare one for advancement.
