By focusing my attention on others less fortunate than I it gives me the opportunity to take a step back and focus our resources on something other than ourselves. by taking that moment to care for and/or give to another human other than ourselves it will, if even for that tiny moment, take away the suffering. The suffering of the one being helped and our own suffering as well. So , in fact, my answer is not as altruistic as once thought. Although in the end we all know that "All you need is love"!
