Service Engineer are the ones who's responsible for the company's entire product maintenance. It's a big role in work field and it's best to know from ground up rather than just get up directly into some managerial level and let everything happen the way it is... without actually providing a noticeable input into the company. It's not quite a self satisfaction to be honest for me, as a engineer should put his skills on the field to prove his credentials.
