Beginning at the age of 11 I first comprehended that my Grammy, my hero and mentor, dealt with exceedingly challenging scenarios. For one, her mother, my GG, had dementia and great fear of water so I volunteered to learn how I could help. I found playing piano and singing the old hymns settled GG and Grammy could relax. I took that loyalty and helped her when her daughter abandoned her four small children. Because I was much older this was doable. I was with her when GG passed. She did all of this whilst being the nurse manager, a very hands on nurse manager that made the ER flourish. My hero. When I was gifted my beautiful son, for which Grammy was present and my focal point, I dedicated my life to him. He was diagnosed with autism at the age of three. No tears. Action. Like Grammy. I interfaced with a myriad of people to make sure the best opportunities for growth were afforded to him. I was successful at this. I finished a BA in Anthropology during this time of non verbal communication and constant meltdowns. Thinking on my toes. Providing a kind and consistent environment to encourage growth through safety and confidence. I was too late into college to quit even though he had been diagnosed. But, becoming a professor had to, and was freely and with a loving heart, removed from my mind. I knew how to give care. I got my CNA licence and went to work. I worked for the best in-home Care company in Colorado Springs, CO. It was so much more than individual homes. Often I was contracted with VNA, skilled nursing facilities for shifts, assisted living facilities as well as all every hospice client. Now, even though I had a BA I certainly did not downgrade my work. I saw and remembered my Grammy’s work. I approached every day, every shift with her loving and dedicated attitude and was successful with the implementation of that mindset. Before I moved home to Jefferson City, MO, the company took me to observe signing new clients. I read between the lines. My work had not gone amiss. They were going to allow me to do more good in a new role which excited me greatly. It was the role you are advertising. It Is where I want to be. I believe with all in I can do it. I am starting a masters program in Hospital Administration. What a joy. My son is 18, verbal, entering the workforce and has a large support network. It was not difficult to forget aspirations to being a professor. I belong inside this field.
