Unpaid labour + Judgmental Hiring Manager + Uninformed HR = Not a positive experience! HR contacted me for a talk. They didn't seem to know much about the position and just wanted to get it over with. The questions I asked were replied to with "You'll be able to ask these questions to the team lead." Although I didn't get to understand their expectations, I received instructions to do unpaid labour (they call it "take-home test"), and they should at least include a disclaimer stating that the company won't use applicants' unpaid work - I don't know if they did, I just don't feel I can trust them. I worked on it for an entire day, and I am confident that I produced excellent work. I would expect to have a chance to meet the team lead and introduce myself after all the unpaid work, but no. The team lead checked my LinkedIn profile, clearly didn't like something about it (I can only guess...), and HR called me minutes later to tell me that I did very good work, but that "other candidates were just better." The fact that you think other candidates did a better job is obvious, as I didn't get an interview, so this is rude and useless feedback. The position remained open several months later, so I suppose that no one is good enough for this stellar team.
