Initial contact was via CEO headhunting, which was appreciated. My initial conversation with Andrew was positive and engaging. However, the technical interview conducted by the CTO and another developer felt unstructured and unpleasant. It relied heavily on random technical trivia questions – information easily found with a quick search or AI tool today. This format didn't seem like an effective way to gauge practical development skills. A take-home coding exercise or a system design discussion would likely provide a much better assessment of a senior candidate's abilities. The technical interview process needs a significant overhaul, especially if the company intends to headhunt experienced developers.
