This Women's History Month, join us in celebrating Jennifer Henkel, Vice President of Business Systems, as she shares why she joined Harbor Group Management and reflects on her journey. “If someone had told me during my college years that I would eventually find myself leading teams in Information Technology, I would have dismissed it with a laugh! My journey began as an onsite leasing consultant, after which, I stumbled into various IT roles. Every role I've taken has played a part in shaping the individual I am today, a fact for which I am deeply grateful. During my interviews at Harbor Group Management Company in 2022, I was struck by the presence of primarily female leaders who exemplified unwavering support for each other and a collective pride in their company, culture, and team members. It was at that moment I realized that joining Harbor Group Management Company and collaborating with these exceptional women would undoubtedly be the most rewarding path for me and it's proven true! My advice to my younger self and my teenage daughter: “She believed she could, so she did.” Focus on what you want to do and learn by doing it. Ask more questions until you understand the why. You don’t get what you don’t ask for. Use your voice.”

Inspired by her family's legacy, Erika Olivares, Property Manager champions inclusivity and empowerment in property management. “Every morning, I wake up with determination, rise with purpose, and chase my dreams with vigor. As a woman in property management, I stand on the shoulders of those who came before me, I draw strength from my family ancestors who defied norms and paved the way for future generations. In the spirit of Women's History Month, I'm reminded of the words of Maya Angelou: 'Each time a woman stands up for herself, without knowing it, possibly without claiming it, she stands up for all women.' I'm committed to standing up, breaking barriers, and shaping a more inclusive industry for all. I foster an inclusive environment where every individual feels respected and empowered to contribute. I'm committed to ensuring that opportunities for career growth and development are open to all employees, regardless of background. Specifically, I advocate for mentorship and support programs tailored to women in our industry, providing them with the resources and networking opportunities necessary to excel in their careers. Recently, I became involved with a group in Orlando dedicated to supporting Latin women in property management, furthering my commitment to diversity and inclusion within our field.”

Regional Manager Shawn Sanford’s, dedication to mentorship empowers women in property management. “Throughout my tenure in property management, I have encountered several esteemed female professionals whose strength and intelligence I admired and sought to emulate. From each, I picked characteristics that I recognized as essential for effective leadership. In return, they imparted invaluable lessons and insights. I am committed to setting a compelling example for emerging women in property management, dedicating time to mentor, empower, and nurture their strengths, thereby fostering their growth and success within the industry.” “The success of every woman should be an inspiration to another. We should raise each other up. Make sure you're courageous, be strong, be extremely kind, and above all, be humble.” —Serena Williams
Carla Stoner, Chief Financial Officer, shares a message of encouragement for Women’s History Month. “I grew up in the commercial real estate industry. A big component of my early success was the mentorship of a female leader. I encourage all young women to seek advice from women leaders and for those of us who have achieved leadership positions to engage with the next generation of women leaders. I also encourage young women to take risks in their careers by volunteering for the messiest and hardest projects available. There is no better way to demonstrate your skills and abilities than to take on and succeed in a project that others may shy away from. You’ve Got This!”
