Asphalt Laborer / Luter – Paving Crew ($20–$28/hr + OT)

Pay & Schedule

• $20–$28/hour DOE + overtime in season
• Full-time, Monday–Friday, occasional Saturdays
• Early starts (typically 6:00 AM)
• Seasonal peak spring–fall, with off-season opportunities for the right people

What You'll Do

• Spread, feather, and smooth hot-mix asphalt using lute, rake, and shovel at edges, transitions, and shoulders
• Fine-grade areas the screed can't reach; establish correct elevations and slopes per crew instructions
• Hand-compact edges using plate compactor or hand tamper
• Match the pace of the paving train and follow foreman direction
• Perform daily tool and equipment checks; keep tools staged, clean, and report defects
• Maintain jobsite housekeeping — remove trip hazards, dispose of trash, secure materials
• Follow all safety procedures, wear required PPE, and participate in toolbox talks
• Occasionally assist with traffic control, material handling, and staging yard maintenance

What You Need

• 1+ year on a paving crew (lute/rake experience strongly preferred)
• Comfortable working in heat and lifting 50+ lbs repeatedly
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record
• Reliable transportation and able to start at 6:00 AM
• Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
• Located in the Greater Columbus area
• Responsive communication and ability to follow foreman directions

Bonus Points

• Experience with plate compactor and hand tampers
• OSHA 10 or equivalent safety training
• Familiarity with asphalt terminology (crown, grade, compaction)
• Previous experience on commercial paving projects
