Hoping for the day when high gas prices will result in geometric financial growth, GeoMet is explores for, develops, and produces natural gas from coalbed methane properties in Alabama, Virginia, West Virginia, and British Columbia. The company is developing the Gurnee field in the Cahaba Basin and the Garden City Chattanooga Shale prospect (in Alabama), as well as the Pond Creek and Lasher fields in the Central Appalachian Basin. It also has holdings in the Peace River field in British Columbia. GeoMet controls a total of 160,000 net acres of coalbed methane assets. In 2010 the company had proved reserves of 215.9 billion cu. ft. of coalbed methane. Yorktown Energy Partners IV controls about 40% of GeoMet.
