It may not roll of the tongue like Caisse d'Epargne or Banque Populaire, but Groupe BPCE is rolling in the money like both of those. France's second largest bank, formed by the 2009 merger of Caisse d'Epargne (CNCE) and Banque Populaire, has more than 8,000 branches nationwide under their respective brand names serving some 36 million customers. Activities include retail banking (checking, personal and business loans, wealth management, retirement and investment vehicles), commercial banking under the Natixis banner (investment products, asset management, insurance, financing), and real estate (public and private property development).
