InterWest Partners provides venture capital to development-stage information technology (IT) and life sciences companies. Targeted sectors include communications, digital media, datacenter infrastructure, software, semiconductors, and wireless services, as well as biopharmaceuticals, medical devices, and health care IT. Usually acting as lead investor, the firm typically provides up to $15 million over various stages of a company's development. InterWest is an active investor, often assigning one of its general partners to a seat on a portfolio company's board and providing strategic advice and operations support over the duration of the investment, which usually lasts more than five years.
