Being #2 means Poland's biggest alternative telecommunications provider Netia has to try harder. As the largest competitor to state-controlled heavyweight Telekomunikacja Polska (TPSA), the company operates fixed-line local phone networks in more than 20 Polish territories, and it offers domestic long-distance and broadband Internet services. Netia serves both residential and commercial customers. Its other services include computer telephony, wireless broadband, and data transmission for businesses. Netia's fiber-optic backbone network links Poland's largest cities, including Krakow and Warsaw. In 2011 the company announced plans to buy the telecom asset Dialog from KGHM for $292 million.
