Profile Technologies probes for problems in pipelines by propagating electrical impulses. The company has developed a nondestructive, noninvasive process to test for corrosion or breaks that breach the integrity of pipelines. Its pulse propagation analyzer examines the waveforms of electrical impulses sent toward each other down a length of pipe. This method allows for the testing of otherwise inaccessible pipelines. The company has demonstrated its patented process on the North Slope of Alaska and under the streets of New York City. Customers include power plants and refineries, operators of natural gas and oil pipelines, and utilities. Profile Technologies filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2011.
