What's in a name, really? Ignis Asset Management has gone through several. The former Resolution Asset Management was spun off from Resolution plc when it was acquired by Pearl Group Limited in 2008. It then was merged with another subsidiary, Axial Investment Management, and branded as Ignis (Latin for burn or spark). The company manages 22 funds of alternative investments. It is comprised of eight boutique teams and four joint venture boutiques -- Argonaut, Cartesian, Hexam, and Maia. It provides investment management for retail, third-party institutional, and life company clients. Ignis has about £70 billion in assets under management.
