The company formerly known as The Sharper Image is refocusing the scope of its business. Operating as TSIC, the firm shut down its retail chain and now licenses The Sharper Image brand to manufacturers and distributors of consumer electronics, kitchen appliances, travel gear, and health and beauty products. Its branded merchandise is available nationwide in such stores as Best Buy, Bed Bath & Beyond, J. C. Penney, Macy's, and Staples. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2008 and was later acquired by a joint venture between private equity firms Hilco Consumer Capital, Gordon Brothers Group, and Bluestar Alliance.
