JavaScript Engineer (Frontend/Integrations)

About the Role

Monetate's Custom Development team delivers bespoke technical solutions for customers who require tailored platform experiences beyond standard configuration. This role focuses on building custom client solutions and integrations using JavaScript, HTML/CSS, and APIs on our platform. This role sits within the Customer Organization and reports to the Head of Custom Development.

This is a hands-on, execution-focused role. You will write and own code, collaborate closely with the Technical CSM team, and deliver high-quality output that directly influences customer retention and expansion.

What You'll Do

• Build custom experiences, templates, and components within the Monetate platform using JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
• Develop and maintain product feed integrations, data layer implementations, and API connections
• Write net-new custom code for bespoke use cases that fall outside standard platform configuration
• Troubleshoot and debug existing custom implementations across client accounts
• Collaborate with TCSMs to scope, estimate, and deliver custom work within agreed timelines
• Translate customer requirements (received via internal ticket or project brief) into clean, performant code
• Document all custom solutions for internal knowledge transfer and future maintainability
• Participate in code review and maintain consistent quality standards across the team
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools (including Claude Code) as a standard part of your workflow
• Take ownership of solutions from requirement understanding through implementation and validation

What We're Looking For

Required

• Bachelor's degree, recent graduate or up to 2 years post-graduation (STEM, Computer Science, or related technical fields preferred)
• 2+ years of professional development experience, with strong JavaScript proficiency
• Solid understanding of HTML, CSS, and DOM manipulation
• Experience working within tag-based or JavaScript-injected front-end environments
• Comfort reading and working with data feeds (JSON, XML, CSV) and REST APIs
• Strong written English communication skills for async collaboration across time zones
• Ability to debug issues, adapt code, and independently solve real-world problems, while managing multiple concurrent workstreams and proactively identifying and communicating blockers.
• Experience working in a remote or distributed team environment

Preferred

• Experience with ecommerce platforms (Shopify, SFCC, Magento, BigCommerce, or similar)
• Familiarity with Single Page Application frameworks (React, Next.js, Angular, Vue)
• Experience with A/B testing or personalization platforms
• Exposure to tag managers (Tealium, GTM) and client-side analytics implementations
• Exposure to debugging production issues and handling real-world edge cases
• Experience building custom UI components or client- facing web experiences
• Experience with data layer implementations, event tracking and complex API integrations in real world applications
• Experience working in a client facing or services oriented environment

• Hours aligned to US EST or UK GMT; flexibility is required
• Collaboration via Slack, HubSpot, and internal ticketing; code delivered via agreed handoff process
• AI tools are part of the standard workflow, not optional; comfort with AI-assisted development is expected
• You will be embedded in a small, high-output team; quality and reliability matter more than volume

Compensation

Competitive contractor rate commensurate with experience. USD-denominated engagement.
