- Payment is good - Startup experience is good - Lots of awesome technical colleagues - Remote for most of the time

- Very bad leadership inventing impossible deadlines with no explanation and making terrible technical/non-technical decisions - Need to work as if 9-9-6 (or even more) otherwise they will fire you, even if you deliver your tasks. Total lack of empathy with employees. - Frequent mandatory on site bootcamps throughout the year

At A8, we're constantly pushing the boundaries with really cool, innovative projects that are cutting-edge in technology. It's incredibly exciting to be a part of, as there's a palpable energy and enthusiasm among the team. The work is intense and impactful, but the collaborative spirit here is unmatched. Team members are highly friendly, and it's common to see group lunches and dinners where everyone comes together. Beyond work, there are also hiking and adventure groups that meet over the weekends to enjoy fun activities. The projects we take on are always fresh and aligned with the latest advancements in AI technology, which makes the challenges worthwhile and the achievements rewarding. Being in tech for a lot of years, the people here are simply great making the work environment both challenging and fulfilling. Leadership here also take time to listen and mentor us to advance our understanding of AI, our product and our plans for the future. There are opportunities to develop and learn how you want. If you want external support or to learn outside of A8 they allow it. That has been extremely beneficial to me as I learn best getting multiple perspectives both internal and external which I believe will help me be a better employee who is not only informed on AI but also how to develop myself into a better peer, mentor, trainer and leader for new incoming hires. I'm pumped.

Contras

One thing to be aware of is the high level of expectations and fast pace that come with working at a startup. While this environment can be demanding and sometimes requires wearing multiple hats or adapting quickly to change, or working with some level of ambiguity, it also offers tremendous opportunities for personal and professional growth. For those who thrive on challenge and continuous learning, these expectations can be a catalyst for rapid development and meaningful impact within the company.

You'll get to experience what incompetent leadership looks like firsthand.

Contras

Bad leadership starts at the top with the CEO serving as a controlling micromanager who insists everything follows his way or the highway, from individual work and mandatory weekend hours to even the product's technical direction, despite rarely contributing the strongest ideas himself. Over time, an underlying lack of trust has developed that has destroyed the previous culture of technical leaders mentoring early career talent, to the point where individual contributors are actively discouraged from pursuing more meaningful or challenging assignments. Little more than a facade, weekly demos become opportunities for the CEO to berate people and smirk at flaws he highlights without any substantiating evidence, a stark contrast to his constant claims of being strictly data-driven. In fact, the environment now promotes subtle racial discrimination where people from certain ethnic backgrounds rarely receive reprimands from him while others face them disproportionately. Management has ultimately eroded all psychological safety that once allowed open technical discussion and growth within the company. Anonymous feedback is discouraged while arbitrary CEO control dictates even minor decisions, leaving no space for experienced voices or better alternatives. Genuine collaboration and communication between levels have vanished, with Q&A forums that were once held by the CEO to promote transparency within the company silently disappearing. All these factors combine to create a draining and unsustainable workplace that drives talent away.
