Prós
Management is understanding and have always been respectful and kind when we have interacted. I cant speak for all units but the admin and management on my team are actually pretty great. I feel safe at work. There are adequate safety protocols that are for the most part followed appropriately. The new facilities are set up specifically to keep staff safe.
Contras
The full time schedule is brutal. The master line for full time inpatient nursing staff is inflexible. I work 9 day shifts over 2 weeks followed by 11 night shifts over 3 weeks. That is more nights shifts than I have been scheduled for on other master lines elsewhere. The new central scheduling system currently isn't allowing staff to swap nights for days and vice versa. Depending on where you work, you might have to get used to the fact that many of your clients are there involuntarily and many do not have capacity to make their own treatment decisions. You will witness suffering due to the nature of severe and persistent mental illness and the impact it has on patients and their families. That said, you will also see people stabilize and make progress.
