Prós

Rafter is a mission driven company and it shows in the passion of the team. It feels good to be part of a company that is trying to make an positive impact in the success of our student population. The CEO is extremely transparent and leads with a healthy pacesetting attitude. (Work hard, but balance that with life we all have outside of work). Throughout the organization, there is virtually no politics and team members treat each other with respect.

Contras

Education is a tough industry and market adoption doesn't happen as fast as I'd like. Like all startups, the reality is, you wear a lot of hats and need to be independently motivated. Multi-tasking is always a challenge, and you have to be willing to juggle priorities. Upward mobility (career-wise) can be tough in a small organization.

Culture was great, the people I worked with were amazing. The exec team really cares about each of the employees' professional AND personal development.

Contras

Funding and lack of resources were always an issue. If it weren't for the fact that the company closed, I think I'd still be working here for a while.

Prós

Rafter is a place where everyone is hardworking and moving towards the same goal. There's a plethora of smart talented people here that are friendly and willing to help you out. When it's work time we all dig into the trenches but when it's over we party like it's our last day. The environment is definitely cut throat but rewarding if you can hang in there.

Contras

Like most small startups you're required to wear multiple hats and learn things that you weren't hired for. Sometimes your position can change several times in a year depending on the needs of the company. This isn't really a con for the person that likes to take on new challenges quickly. For the type that likes to be told what to do and repeat the same task everyday this may be a problem.
