Good pay, great team members, genuinely enjoyed the tasks within the role.

I was fired suddenly under the pretext of "poor performance". The reasons presented were disappointing and after some conversation with my manager we were able to come to the conclusion that poor performance wasn't very fair, especially considering a lack of substantial communication and feedback regarding performance. My manager was honestly great, during employment and termination I had no issues whatsoever with him, we just had different communication styles that led to termination but when we talked he understood where I was coming from and even agreed that things could have/should have been handled differently. Being fired unexpectedly was unpleasant to say the least, but the termination process with HR was extremely stressful and unfair to the point it was shocking. The calculations for compensation for days worked were wrong, they charged me for the company issued laptop (without offering the option to return it) and didn't even touch on unused vacation days. After my response to the email the calculations were promptly corrected and the laptop will be returned but I was not paid the unused vacation days. There was almost $3K worth of unused vacation days. Oh, and my replacement was also hired while I was still there and had no idea I was going to be fired or that there were "performance issues". I think if there was time and conversation for a whole hiring process there definitely was time for a feedback/performance conversation with a PIP program, or just any measure really. The process to return the laptop has also been quite unpleasant, it's been almost a month for pickup and the documents for shipping were only sent to me last week. After mentioning countless times that I would need a rough pickup date to organize for the parcel to be available for pick up I got an email asking to please help with pickup but I haven't been getting answers with regards to pick up dates. The only time I did get an answer and moved everything around to be home, there was no attempt at pick up for three days. Overall very disappointing and shocking experience. The laptop is yet to be picked up and I left the company with 22.81 unused vacation days that were not paid and I took an almost $3K hit, in addition to being unexpectedly terminated with only two weeks notice to try and get things in order for sudden unemployment. The excuse for not paying for the unused vacation days was "they never heard of this" and that if it wasn't in the contract or stated in any company policy they didn't need to honor it. I had never heard of unused vacation days NOT being paid up until then (in my own experience and others as well, including my manager that so kindly wanted to make sure I got those paid correctly) so definitely a very disappointing learning moment here. It was very sad to see that the company I was contributing to and genuinely liked did not miss a single chance to throw me under the bus, with the equipment, payment, vacation days, everything. I had no issues with anyone previously and genuinely liked the company and every single team member, so being treated like that on the way out was very surprising and disappointing. Unfortunately after termination I heard some similar stories from previous employees going through the same things.
