Working from home. Decent salary and health benefits. Also a phone to use, but it didn't work right. I ended up taking photos with my own equipment.

It had potential and was rewarding to a point. However it was redundant, having to recycle the same stories year after year. You were expected to work constantly-- late evenings until after 11 p.m., weekends, super early mornings, holidays, with minimal time off. No matter how great a job you did, it was never good enough. You had to chase after people who had little or no interest being in the newspapers. You had benefits, but no "official" time off, not even weekends. If you took a day off, you had to work double the next day. My mother was in the hospital during my time here and I couldn't take time to visit her. I'd get calls all day long, felt like I was being micro-managed.

Interview was quick after my resume was received. However, the interview was casual and seemed as if things would fall into place. It was quite unorganized because press releases have to be formatted. Each announcement has spelling errors, wrong verb usage, run on7 sentences; it's a mess.

You work from your home. You work tediously and these are not news articles with AP Style. It's glossy press releases made to look like news. This is why news is fake news exist, because people think they are journalists when they are not. Buy a real newspaper and support a news reporter.
