      Entrevista para Cybersecurity Analyst

      Candidatura

Candidatei-me online. O processo levou 2 semanas. Fiz uma entrevista na empresa AT&T.

      Entrevista

There are many branches of cybersecurity at AT&T, so your experience may vary: The process was good, very streamlined, I first had an interview with one of Associate Directors as well as a couple of people who would be my coworkers if I got the position. It was a mix between a culture fit and a technical interview. They asked conflict resolution questions as well as DNS and attack surface questions. Be careful though, whatever you bring up, be confident in it because they’ll capitalize on it. For example, they only asked me DNS questions because I brought up DNS, so your interview flow may vary depending on what you bring up, so don’t do so casually. Besides that they asked me questions about the difference between a threat and a vulnerability, how I would investigate possible indicators of compromise, and other general tech questions such as networking questions. The next interview was with the head of that arm of AT&T, and it was honestly just a casual conversation. I couldn’t tell you what he was looking for or what he got from our conversation that he used to decide to push me through, but I got an offer after that.

      Pergunta 1

What’s the difference between a threat and a vulnerability? Would it be faster to encrypt a file and then send it or send it over an encrypted channel? How can DNS be used a method of leveraging vulnerabilities for an attacker? How is DNS used internally vs. externally?

Overall stages Application and resume review: You submit your application, and HR or a recruiter screens your resume for basic fit (skills, experience, location, salary range). Only a subset of applicants are advanced to interviews. Recruiter/HR screen: A 15–30 minute phone or video call to verify qualifications, clarify your background, discuss compensation, and confirm mutual interest in the role. Main interview rounds Technical or role-specific interviews: One or more interviews where you solve problems, walk through past projects, or discuss domain topics (e.g., coding, system design, cybersecurity tools and scenarios). Behavioral interviews: Sessions focused on communication, teamwork, conflict, leadership, and culture fit, often using STAR-style questions about past experiences. Onsite or final round Panel/onsite loop: Several back-to-back interviews (often 4–6) with different team members or managers, mixing technical and behavioral questions and sometimes including an informal lunch or coffee chat that still counts toward evaluation. Q&A and wrap-up: Near the end of each interview, you ask your questions, then the interviewer explains next steps and decision timelines before closing the conversation. Decision and offer Hiring review: Interviewers submit written feedback; a hiring manager or committee reviews your performance, strengths, and concerns and compares you with other candidates. Offer, references, and background checks: If selected, you receive an offer with compensation details, often followed by reference and background checks before a final start date is confirmed. If you tell which role or company you mean (e.g., CrowdStrike security engineer, FAANG, startup), a more tailored breakdown of that specific interview process can be provided. 3 rounds of interviews, a technical with a panel of what would be your potential coworkers, a semi-technical with the director(s), and then a conversation with the higher leadership. Assuming the first two went well the final is essentially a formality.

      Pergunta 1

What is one method an attacker may use to compromise DNS? And why would they want to compromise an organization’s DNS?
