      Candidatura

Candidatei-me online. O processo levou 4 semanas. Fiz uma entrevista na empresa Advanced Systems Concepts (Morristown, NJ).

      Entrevista

The first stage of the interviewing process was a phone interview, which lasted around 30-45 minutes, with some very general technical questions as well as the usual general screening. A week after this, they emailed me to set up an interview at their office, which consisted of 3 one-on-one interviews with heads of the tech support team and a technical exercise. The exercise wasn't difficult at all; they provide a laptop and you're allowed to use the internet . The one-on-ones, like the phone interview, had a good mix of technical and personal questions. After this, the next and final step in the process would be an interview with management and HR, which I assume would be more onboarding than anything else, however I was informed 2 weeks after the interview that they had selected another candidate for the position. All in all the process, albeit a bit lengthy, was very professional and thorough.

      Candidatura

Candidatei-me online. Fui entrevistado pela Advanced Systems Concepts (Morristown, NJ) em jun. de 2017

      Entrevista

Let me first start off by saying I had applied online May 31, 2017 and they got back to me the next day wanting to schedule a phone interview. HR was very nice and efficient in what they did. We scheduled something for June 6, 2017 at 4:30 PM. I first chatted with the HR lady I was emailing, and then a Technical support staff person. We actually argued about the best practices to go about a certain scenario and he didn't seem to get the concept of legacy software which is no longer supported. So to my surprise, 2 days later on June 8, 2017, they got back to me and invited me for a 2.5 hour interview which would consist of a technical exercise and meeting the team. This was held on June 16, 2017 at 1 PM and I didn't leave the building until 4 PM! Luckily I knew the area well, but the building is kinda weird and you have to take a sequence of elevators to get to the right office from the parking garage. I first sat down to take the test which felt more like a bug hunting test (which I have no experience in and was not mentioned on the application). Then I met two very nice HR people and then the more advanced technical team. The HR Team was just general questions but the technical team asked me a bunch of questions about things I had no clue about. These were either programming questions (not scripting) or database questions. The application for this position made it seem like they were looking for more of a Junior technical administrator position, but when I got to the interview it seemed like they were looking for a completely different role. Maybe a QA Engineer or even a jr programmer with a lot of experience! Again, I didn't know of the answers to most of the questions they were asking. Why ask for a technical support role if you are going to be asking MOSTLY programming questions? I was actually shocked when they asked me to come in for a THIRD time (this has never happened to me before) to meet with the manager. I told them that this monday June 26, 2017 was fine. I didn't hear back from them for a whole day and they cancelled the final interview, saying they found someone else. It seems there was a miscommunication right from the get-go as to what the role would be. From what I gathered about the company during the interview, it seems that they are a 24 hour shop and they seem to know what they want. They are tightly controlled and have a set path with no room for new ideas. It's a good company to go to if you actually want to learn THEIR software. Since it's all they seem to care about, which has it's own pros and cons. This was the hardest interview I have ever been on and I still can't understand how I made it as far as I did.
