      Candidatura

Candidatei-me online. O processo levou 2 meses. Fui entrevistado pela Agoda (Banguecoque) em dez. de 2016

      Entrevista

I recently had a very bad experience interviewing with Agoda. I applied in October for a role in Bangkok (I am located in Chicago) and had two Skype interviews before being flown out to meet with the team. Up until this point, things seemed great. The team was friendly and were easy to talk to. Unfortunately, I was a bit unhappy with the process once I was actually interviewing in Bangkok. I was scheduled for 6 hours of interviews over the course of 3 days, and only 1 of those hours was actually with the team I would be working with. Once I was face to face with the team, all 3 of them had some sort of device, whether it be a phone or laptop in front of them. This made them seem very uninterested in speaking with me. While I believe the manager was using his laptop to try and generate questions for the interview, it still seemed rather impersonal. About 15 minutes into that interview, I was asked to come back 2 hours later so they could prepare other questions or a test. Once I came back, I was presented with 3 binaries to analyze, however there were no tools available to me, the systems were not isolated so execution of the files was not possible and code analysis was not possible due to the absence of a debugger or disassembler. The lab I have built at my house would have been adequate to analyze these. Overall, I spent more time talking to them over Skype than I did in person and it left me wondering why I was flown out in the first place. If this had been a local trip, my opinion may be a little different. However, given I spent over 50 hours of travel roundtrip just to interview, I have to say I am very disappointed. I did everything I could to help speed this process along, from expediting my passport to flying out right before Christmas. When my interviews were done for the day, I was left to my own devices to see the city. It's been my experience with other companies that foreign candidates are typically shown around or at least not left by themselves the entire trip. When I inquired as to what major projects were being worked on, "recruiting" was stressed heavily. I feel if that is the case, then more time could have been spent with me. If I was an owner of the company and had spent thousands of dollars to get a candidate to the city, I would expect the personnel to take the time with the candidate to get to know them and help them see if the location was a good fit. If it could be determined that I was not a good fit for the company in under and hour of technical questions, then flying someone out probably was not the best idea. Otherwise. if flying me out was for me to see the city and determine whether it was a good fit, I would have hoped for someone to actually show it to me. The interviews with the rest of the employees were OK, but were mostly chit chat. We did speak technically about some aspects, but because their primarily roles were not in security and my experience does not extend to web development or infrastructure management, we were a bit limited. I was a bit disappointed that no talk of where I stood was had while I was there. After the interviews were completed, I had hoped to hear as to whether there was a chance of an offer being made. Instead, I came home wondering how things had gone and without ever discussing money or anything related. Even if it was felt that I wasn't a good fit, I would have hoped to hear about it while I was there. Even before I left Bangkok, I knew that I would not be accepting an offer from the company, even if one was extended. After I got back home, and the holidays were over, I wrote to HR asking for any feedback from my interview. After a few days of no responses, I sent an email detailing most of what is in this post, letting them know I was not interested in the position. It is my hope that Agoda take a strong look at how they handling candidates, especially foreign (the majority of their workers) ones. After I sent the email, I received a "no reply" email stating that they were focusing on other candidates, which further solidified how I felt I had been treated. Again, I absolutely do not mind not getting an offer. I would not have taken it regardless. But the fact that things were handled so unprofessionally is very upsetting.

Is it possible to stop websites from scraping our search results and including them in THEIR results? This was posed to me by an employee that was not on the security team.
