      Entrevista

This company has three employees and one unpaid intern. I was given two-round interviews, including one with the CEO. The CEO's company is based and located at their personal residence which is a single-family home in a private residential neighborhood (meaning no parking garage, no food take-out, and no access to other typical things and perks near a regular workplace site) in the Georgetown area of Washington, D.C. The company is based and runs out of the CEO's personal home. I was totally unaware and blindsided by the fact that the company is based out of the CEO's home where they live, eat, sleep, and breathe daily. This was never discussed at all in the entirety of the job interview. The company and the job doesn't offer health, vision, and dental insurance, and I was genuinely honest with the CEO about why I was unemployed and that I have other companies interviewing me. The CEO wanted me to come for an in-person interview on Saturday or Sunday, but we agreed for a Skype interview on a weekday as I had other in-person interviews with other prospective employers already established in advance. Following 48 hours (two days) after the Skype interview, I received a letter offer of employment from the CEO on May 9th. The offer letter had some spelling errors involving the date of when the job offer letter was written and the title of the job position said "office administrator" and not "administrative assistant." However, there were some things that were not mentioned or discussed in the interview and some confusing information in the job offer letter. I first asked the CEO if I could start 1 to 2 weeks after the offer was given to me as I had other interviews set for the week of May 13th (which the start date for this job was May 13th) and the hiring manager was okay with me starting on May 20th. Then, in the job offer letter, it says that employees will be expected to work 40 hours a week or more. I asked the CEO if employees who work beyond 40 hours a week will receive overtime pay. The CEO said no and employees who are required to stay late must work without pay given the job is a base salaried position and that I must make a decision by the close of business on May 10th. The conversation from the CEO states that "As a salaried position, there is no overtime pay. Most weeks are 40 hours, but if a project needs to get done and you stay past 5, that is expected and within your salary. Overtime only applies to hourly positions, which this is not." On May 10th, less than 12 hours later, the CEO said my questions gave her concern and said she rescinded the job offer. The CEO said, "Your two emails since receiving the Alchimie Forever job offer have given pause and concern as well as about your overall commitment to the job. I hereby rescind the job offer." I was originally intending to gracefully turn down the job offer since the company and the job position do not offer overtime pay after discussing the job offer with my family members. Everything happened very fast - too fast and too quickly. Job applicants, job candidates, and job seekers are an absolute legal right to ask a company or a hiring manager follow-up questions about an offer letter of employment, especially if they need clarification or more information about something that was said in the letter. Stay away from this company as the CEO is not truly honest, open, and transparent as claimed to be in the Skype interview. The CEO solely cares about traveling to sell the company's skincare products and running her skincare empire. You as an employee (whether as an intern or full-time or part-time employee) are nothing to this company and to the CEO. Also, the job position is a dead-end job which will not help you with your career endeavors whether it is within the beauty industry or another career industry outside of beauty such as Engineering, Nursing, Law, and Construction, for example. There is no promotion or opportunities for advancement. Make sure the company or companies you are applying for provides you with overtime pay. If they don't give you overtime pay, do not work with them. The same for health insurance and other benefits. There are salaried employment positions at other companies in other career industries that give salaried employees overtime pay.
