I applied for this TAM role via LinkedIn and had a phone interview with one of their recruiters. The call started off fine, but it ended with me feeling like I absolutely wasted 30 minutes of my day. In the description of the duties it stated that they were looking for someone with a basic working knowledge of at least one of a few different programming languages (which for the record I do have and more than just basic knowledge with some). The key word in their listing being “basic” here. When we got to this portion of the conversation I went over my skill set and she advised me that this role might be "too technical" for me as they were looking for someone with a full on background in Programming. If you have a background in Programming then that means you have much more than a "basic working knowledge" of different coding languages and one would assume you wouldn’t be looking to move in to a TAM role. And furthermore if that was what you were seeking you should have clarified that in your listing to begin with instead of how you had it. I informed her how it made no mention of this in the requirements and read back that portion of the job description word for word and she refused to comment and continued on with her questions. She then proceeded to almost gaslight me by trying to make me feel inferior because she personally felt I didn’t meet this requirement and kept trying to persuade me to apply for an entry-level Helpdesk role with the company instead. It was your classic bait-and-switch tactic. I explained how that would be a big step backwards in my career path not to mention my salary range and I was not interested. No matter how many times I tried to explain this and politely decline the offer she kept at it. It got to the point where I had to end the call just to get her to stop. This is not a good look for the company and this approach is highly unprofessional. How do you expect to find quality candidates when you falsely describe the role and then continue to insult those who you interview by making them feel inferior? All she simply had to do was state they were looking for a Programmer to fill this position and apologize for the misrepresentation in the roles description as well as the inconvenience for taking up my time and end the call there, but she didn’t. A word of advice to Algolia, make sure you are being as accurate as possible when posting your openings as to not mislead your candidates and more importantly make sure the folks representing your company are not insulting your potential new hires. It is not a good first impression nor representation of your company which is a vast understatement. Here’s a thought, and I could be wrong - maybe she was the one who was not qualified for her job if that is how she acts?

Applying online at company site for the London location. Received an e-mail that they would like to schedule an interview. First Interview with HR Manager (Generalist) and HR assistant. Discussed the role and experience and was told I am suitable for a more senior role. 2nd Interview with Lead Technical Account Manager with detailed review of job role. Explained my experience and expertise while working with the current employer.
