The internal recruiter was very unprofessional about how he spoke about another woman candidate who was going through interview process. He said during my phone screen, “we interviewed another GIRL but don’t like her enough to make her an offer.” Yikes. Calling a candidate a “girl” and then emphasizing “likability” opposes to fit!! He asked my salary expectations and I gave my standard response. His response was a skeptical, “How long have you been doing this?” He could have made his response about budget, but he made it clear he didn’t think I deserved that salary. I seriously felt like he was “negging” me - it was bizarre. I ended up getting two offers from different companies at the top of the range I gave so I’m sure that I wasn’t asking a crazy amount. At the end of the call he said he wanted to move forward, but was generally slow to respond compared to other recruiters. I accepted another offer while waiting for the next step. There also seemed to be a fundamental mismatch between the skillset in job description and what they were actually looking and willing to pay for. That conversation was enough to put me off to the company all-together. It’s no surprise that the position has been open for approximately 6 months. The recruiter is just one person, but based on this one data point, I got the impression that this company doesn’t value women or their talent.
