The process was weird from the start, as I received an email inviting me to apply and interview for their Implementation Specialist role directly from the Director of Professional Services. I never spoke to a recruiter. This was for their facilities management software division. We scheduled a time to chat and had a great discussion. He asked me questions about my experience in Implementation Management. I described it, we seemed to get along well and had a good discussion. We moved to the next stage where he advised I'd be speaking to one of his senior implementation managers.
I spoke with the senior manager. He was a nice guy. No real outstanding difficult questions. Rehashed much of what I spoke with the director about. Standard 30-40 min interview. No questions that seemed hard or nonstandard for the type of role.
Maybe a week later I get an email from the Director saying he thinks I was fantastic and would love for me to join the team, but his senior managers specifically advised that the candidate for the role should have facilities management experience. So he decided against sending me an offer. This is fine.
Instead he proposes that I accept the role as their intern for $17, with no guarantee of advancement. Mind you, I have 6 years experience as an implementation manager and a master's degree on my resume. Needless to say, I declined. This felt like a scheme to get high level work for low level pay. Insulted doesn't even begin to describe the way I feel.
