Was invited by editor to apply for an open position (had previous relationship). After submitting clips and resume, went through a three-person phone interview, then two in-person interviews; first with editor and managing editor, then those two along with publisher. Final step was an outsourced personality/character screen done over the phone by (I believe) a division of IBM. All in all, fairly standard and painless. Time from first submission to start date was about 2 months.
