The hiring process is intentionally booby-trapped. Even if you are caring and diligent that isn't enough. Belay's intent is to throw monkey-wrenches in your road to see if you can dance over them successfully. My first interview was cancelled, likely to test my attitude and flexibility. I feel it was a lead-in to a trick on my second interview. They got me by making it hard to tell what you're supposed to do, and even if you try to take the acceptable real-world action to deal with it, it doesn't count. I was 1/2 an hour early for my interview, but was in the wrong place because I missed the meeting link. I found it later, hidden low in an email among 10 or more unnecessary emails confirming/reminding me of my interview process. Even though I arrived early, I couldn't find the email link and went to the meeting via a link in the dashboard. I even emailed the recruiter to let her know there was a disconnect prior to being eliminated, but that didn't count. I was disappointed in my failure, but it won't ruin my life. Nobody owes me a job. Personally, I don't like these types of practices anyway, and feel they're unfair. I'm sure it's built into their system and my recruiter had no control over it. She seemed pleasant. It sense foreboding. If people have to navigate underhanded tricks to get to an interview, that indicates to me that their clients are a hard sell and Belay puts pressure on the VA to pick up the slack in disinterested clients. It makes me think their clients are un-trusting and hard to please, which puts the onus of the business on the contractor while Belay uses a software system to manage it all behind the scenes. I could be off, but something's afoot for them to do it the way they're doing it. It's not a typical skill matching. service client situation. They could just as easily create tests and written assessments to determine how people would deal with things. All I can say is, no matter what your skill level, be prepared to be eliminated for something completely unforeseen. You have to be keen.

The interview process was very professional, yet relatable. Their Talent Expert asked great intro questions about my interests, skills, background and what led me to apply for this role. She listened very intently and took notes. After exchanged questions, she explained the hiring process. BELAY has an entire Client Success team who's dedicated to matching the ideal candidate (VA) with their client and advocating for the VAs. Overall, the experience was pleasant. I was offered the role and gladly accepted. It can take time to find the right client, but if you want a remote role with room for growth, this is where you want to be.
