      Entrevista

I've applied for positions at BNY Mellon twice over the last few years and both times the experience has been bizarre. When you apply at BNY you have to put in more effort than your average 'Quick Apply' role that many roles allow, you have to complete a lot of information about yourself, your experience, why you want and deserve the role, previous salary, expected salary, etc, etc on their own site. Ok, fair enough, they want to have a thorough screening process, that seems fair in principle. The first job I applied for, I got contacted by the recruitment team, told the hiring manager loved my profile and wanted to interview me ASAP. Arranged an interview in a few days, but the day of the interview I got a call to cancel as an emergency had come up and it was re-arranged for a few days later. The day of the interview - I got another call about 30 minutes before the interview to say the hiring manager just read my required salary and couldn't meet it so cancelled the meeting. Completely unprofessional, apparently she hadn't even read my profile? Second application more recently, hiring manager turns up - good sign! She was very pleasant and this seemed to be getting off to a good start, talking about me at first, my 15 years in IT, my years in leadership, my technical skills, why I wanted the role, etc. she seemed happy enough. Then it was her turn to tell me about the role - she was asking me rather basic questions about the technology I had used - if I had used software and services which I had many years of experience in. So I cut in and said this role sounds very junior - she said yes, this is entry level. I said there must be some confusion, I've applied for a senior role. She said no, this is the role, it's very basic. I explained I'm sure I applied for a senior role - she replied that HR must have changed the information around - but she didn't bat an eye, this didn't seem like an unusual experience for her at all, not a bit of surprise. I enquired of the salary and it was a little over half what I was expecting - she clearly hadn't read my profile even thirty minutes before the interview like the last manager at least managed. I politely brought the interview to an end at this point. I checked the job description on the site and LinkedIn - it had all been changed, and to make sure I was not losing my mind I checked all my original emails and they had the original job title and description and it wasn't a case of me somehow applying for the wrong role. Just bizarre.
