      Entrevista

Everyone says the Bazzarvoice interview process is rigorous, intense, and thorough. My experience was a bit different. The process consisted of three phone interviews and an HTML/CSS proficiency test. The first interview was with a recruiter from their HR department. The interview lasted about 30 mins and was fairly generic. She reviewed things on my resume and told me more about the position. I felt there was a good connection and a good fit. An hour after the interview was over, I got an email asking if I could complete a proficiency test. She sent the information and I returned the completed test (1 hour time limit). The next day I got a phone call from a senior web developer at Bazzarvoice. He said he was very impressed by my performance on the test. He commented that I was the only person applying for the job so far that had answered the most difficult questions correctly. This interview was more technical and went over my experience. The interviewer asked questions specific to HTML, CSS, and was actually a bit challenging at points. The interview went extremely well. We got side tracked and talking about TV shows and the weather in Texas for 30 minutes. There was a lot of energy and we were both equally engaged. After the interview, he scheduled a followup interview with another senior web developer. He told me that if the decision was up to him, he would have hired me on the spot. Onto the third interview. I spoke with another web developer in the department that I would be working in. He was extremely unprofessional to start. He didn't introduce himself, didn't even give me a name. The first words out of his mouth were "So I'm looking at your resume here...". After ignoring any conversation with me for almost 2 minutes, he continued with "I see you've been doing freelance for the last few years". He had obviously never looked at my resume before picking up the phone. The only question he asked me during the interview was "Have you ever worked with a client that wanted something implemented that you didn't agree with". I told him that, having worked with over 50 clients, I've had my share of disagreements with client wants. I told him that, as a professional, it's my job to educate the client and relate my professional knowledge to the situation, but in the end, the client is the one paying my bills, and it's his call to what ultimately gets released. This was obviously not the answer he was looking for. He said "well thank you for your time and I will discuss with my colleagues". I asked if he had any other questions but he said no. Almost immediately I got an email from the original HR person that I had talked to saying they would like to "explore other candidates". The first phone interview is exactly what I had expected from an HR recruiter. The second interview was extremely engaging and probably the best interview I've ever had. The third was absolutely horrid. Oh well.
