I've never submitted a review on Glassdoor, but I strongly feel compelled to share my experience. Despite having almost 10 contacts or interviews with the BenchSci team throughout the hiring process, everything seemed promising. However, after over three months, I began to question the seriousness and urgency of their hiring intentions.
One of the final steps involved a case study, for which I was required to sign an NDA. While I can't disclose the specifics, I can attest that the case study resembled a genuine challenge the CTO seemed to struggle with. I hesitated to tailor my solution to match BenchSci's exact tech stack, as it felt like providing free consultancy.
Despite having met with the CTO twice already, I went on and crafted a presentation deck for the "case study" focusing on validating my strategic planning, technical execution, product delivery, and leadership skills, which were all seemingly the objective of this exercise.
However, at the very beginning of the presentation, the CTO reacted negatively, expecting a solution directly applicable to BenchSci's stack. It felt like she sought free consultation rather than assessing my abilities.
In my extensive career, this is the first time encountering such deceptive practices. It's apparent they've employed this tactic numerous times, likely utilizing information gathered from these "case studies." My advice: steer clear of this company. Recent layoffs and evident struggles with the CTO suggest it's not worth your time or effort.
