Cashiers need to be able to handle money accurately and at a decent speed which means they need to have a good grasp on arithmetic and producing change. This simple question puts the applicant on the spot in the same way they would be while running the cash register. How they answer will give you a good idea about their math skills.

It was easy! Very laid back. Two round interview. Bring strong customer service energy. They really like that. Initial screening: This can be a phone or in-person interview focused on basic details like your work history and availability.
In-depth interview: A second interview, often with a manager, may be more detailed. You could be asked about your skills, how you handle a tough customer, and why you want to work for Big Lots.
Post-interview steps: Depending on the role, you may need to complete a background check.

Easy, just had a conversation rather then a formal interview. I was hired on the spot and stayed over a year. But they did have people coming in and out of the room quite often.
The place we went to interview was crummy looking and the interviewer seemed distracted. I never got a call back on if i got the job or not, or even an email.
