      Candidatura

Candidatei-me online. O processo levou 3 semanas. Fui entrevistado pela Bio-Rad Laboratories (Hercules, CA) em jan. de 2012

      Entrevista

I was initially contacted by the Bio-Rad technical recruiter and briefly discussed the position and my goals. I later found out this recruiter was not an employee but a contractor. About a week later I was asked to do a phone interview with IBM, consisting of technical questions, it lasted about 30 minutes. The HR contractor asked me to call her with after the interview as she wanted to know how it went, but after I asked her for her contact number (she would be working from home that day), she indicated she would send that information to me, she never did. This HR contractor wasn't very organized, didn't do what she said she was going to do half the time, and was not very prompt. After the IBM interview the HR contractor indicated that they wanted to bring me into their facility for a face to face interview. It took them about a week to get the schedule finalized, and then I just received the flight ininiary just 1 day before leaving. They had me flying out of Indianapolis which is 3 hours from my home, so I called their travel department and they changed the departure city but that they would then have to get the new price approved. It got approved, however, there seems to be a disorganized theme with this company. That was my impression even before I had left for the interview. The interview itinerary was to consist of 15 minutes with the HR contractor, followed by 1 hour with a manager and Basis person, followed by 1 hour with a Business person, followed by 1 hour with another manager, followed by 30 minutes with an GRC person. The 15 minutes with the HR contractor consisted of her asking if what we had discussed over the phone was still ok, everything was except that she had asked if I had any other opportunities pending, I indicated that I had another interview next week. The strange thing is that she started comparing Bio-Rad with the company that I would be interviewing with next week, and basically downgraded the other company. I found this to be childish and unprofessional. She then went into a rant about how Bio-Rad wanted and expected an interviewee to be excited and enthusiastic about working for Bio-Rad, and that Bio-Rad would not be waiting more than 3 days for a response if an offer was made. Then she went into telling me about the interviewers personalities, basically that the 1st 2 interviewers are nice, etc, then told me about the 2nd interviewer, that he has an anxious/exited (I can't remember the exact words) personality but was ok, then went on explaining about the rest of the interviewers. I found that to be strange as I've never had anyone do that before, just seemed weird. The 1st hour went by and the 2 interviewers were ok, nothing unusual, 1 manager and a Basis person, I"m not sure if the Basis guy was employee or contract but he did not say much. The 2nd hour was the 'anxious' guy, for some reason all he was concerned about was ragging on my resume, about dates and how long I was there, etc. This guy I found out later had been a director at a previous employer. He was basically wanting not to find out about my skill set, but more interested in ripping my resume apart. I haven't ever seen anyone act so rude in an interview as he did, basically shrugging his shoulders when I was answering his questions. I'm not sure but I think the HR contractor told this interviewer that I had another interview the following week, which of course he reacted to. Anyway, needless to say we finished that session 10 minutes early. After the anxious guy left, the HR contractor asked me how the 1st 2 interviews went, I told her the 1st one was ok, but the 2nd one the guy seemed to be nitpicking my resume, etc. Then I went to take a 10 minute break before the 3rd interview, well when I got back the HR contractor told me that they did not want to continue with the rest of the interview (WOW). In all of my 16 years experience being interviewed for SAP positions, I have never encountered anything like this. I find that to be disrespectful, etc. They said they did not want to waste any more time, however if they had conducted a phone interview with those same interviewers maybe they could have came to that conclusion via the phone instead of actually flying people in just to cut the interview short. I asked the HR contractor to please send me her managers email, which of course she never did, nonetheless I sent an email to a HR rep from Bio-Rad in another department and asked if they could forward my email to the correct person, this person said that they would. So I have never heard another word from Bio-Rad after that. My takeaway? Don't tell them you have another interview as they will take it personally, and show excitement/enthusiasm as Bio-Rad is the only thing that matters to you, that you really, really, really want to work there and that it is a great company.
