Asked me to create a presentation of the most prominent research experiences I had and present to project manager. Then a followup call with hiring manager. Then an in person day interview.

Long list of interviews:
- 1 screening interview with hiring manager.
- 2 Zoom interviews, one with software team and another with hiring manager plus an additional team member.
- All day onsite interview and job talk in front of ~20 team members, with ~8 separate interviews with between 1 and 3 people each. Was told by hiring manager I was top candidate and would almost certainly be receiving an offer.
- Follow up call with recruiter - note this is the first point at which a recruiter spoke to me.
- Follow up call with an HR person.
Was not given an offer.
The entire process took ~6 weeks.
All day interview is very challenging if you're introverted and the chats with team members are very unstructured. Have stimulants on hand if you get invited to onsite interview.

The recruitment process seems to be flawed and lacking in clarity. Hiring tends to favor those already within the organization or individuals with existing relationships, while job listings remain active for long periods. In cases where interviews are conducted, the interviewers often seem uninterested, suggesting that the process is merely a procedural requirement for HR rather than a genuine attempt to assess candidates. Without connections, you may find the process unproductive and not worth the time.
