I was contacted via email and invited to interview onsite with the direct supervisor and a collaborator. Nine days later I received a feedback email saying I was no longer being considered for the position.

I was contacted by the lab PI for a brief phone interview, then an in-person interview with travel reimbursement to Ithaca. I stayed there for roughly 3 hours, including having lunch with other members of the lab. They asked a few personal questions to get to know me as a person, and shared stories. It was very a very laid-back, relaxing interview but with the usual interview questions about my resume and work ethic. I was taken around the main lab to see the facilities and equipment. I asked a few stupid questions to engage myself with the research because it was a new field for me and I was a fresh college graduate from a different field. They were very warm, patient, and polite with my questions. Be open to selling yourself but staying very honest and humble about your qualifications. I named a case in which I was young and naive and owned up to the mistakes I made, which showed them I am ready to take responsibility of my work and that I am able to learn from self-reflection. Since this was a research institute, your interview experience will be dependent on the PI of the lab and their lab members. All in all, I would say non-profit research institutes like this one are usually very gracious in their interviews, no matter the PI. The entire Cornell campus community gives off an overall utopian-like vibe. I received an email around a week later asking me if I wanted the job, then had a formal job offer letter mailed to me afterwards. I moved up there after 2 weeks.
