Bulletproof Design are an organisation that brands themselves as a 'Tribe' but when you go to their London office.. the client executive department continuously refer to Bulletproof Design as an agency that discriminates based on gender!
The interview process was fairly simple but also challenging as their is a gender division.
Interview Process Step 1:
• Online application by attaching your CV, Covering Letter and Answering three simple questions;
Interview Process Step 2:
• If you have successfully passed the screening stage then you shall be invited for an assessment day that involves 3 tasks during the day amongst 20 other individuals.
• The assessment day was very non-compeititve. All the graduates got along well and we almost felt like a family. It was terrible that out of the 20 graduates that only 3 to 4 roles were being assigned.
• There was a large dominance of female graduates rather than males. I think there was 4 to 5 males and about 14 to 15 females graduates. At the beginning the males had recognised this. Though I don't gender discriminate, I felt something was odd and my assumptions proved correct throughout the day.
• The current Client service team is predominately run by females who were very hostile to us male candidates through out the day. For example, they did not take the initiative to talk to us and when we (males) tried to speak to the client team. They were either ignoring us, tried to exit the conversation or they just froze instantly and made a face where they did not know what to do. As opposed to the female candidates the client executive team were happy faces and talking about Prosseco and dream men.
• I think the other issue of discrimination (or bias) was that though the founder had set a non-corporate attitude the client executive team were favouring candidates that fitted their own face, personality and lifestyle rather than true skill and expertise. So if you are English, love to party, drink and love Prosseco, watch mainstream TV etc then you are good but if you not then you are screwed.. not matter how deep or qualified you are.
