Phone interview with hiring manager followed by in-person interview with hiring manager, the CIO, at an offsite location. He loved all of my answers and experience, but openly discrimated against me due to my age.

There were a lot of questions about what I would do in certain situations, and if I had ever experienced some very specific things. Then he started asking about specific dates of when I graduated high school, started college, etc. as to try to calculate my age. He stepped away to get water and I saw a note in his notebook that said something like “too young.” Then he later said that I was answering all the questions right and had great experience but that the board would laugh at how young I look. He said he’d have to tell them to close their eyes and listen to what I was saying to take me seriously. He commented that he knew HR wouldn’t like that but that he was really struggling with my age. He asked if I was being considered for other management roles and I confirmed, and he was shocked because of how young I am.
We take these allegations very seriously. As you can expect, we are very surprised to hear this information, as we have not received this type of allegation in the past on any of our hiring managers.
