This program for young adults is a collaboration between NYACH, CVS Caremark, Comprehensive Development Inc. and Lehman College and was made possible by a grant from the Heckscher Foundation for Children. This August, twenty nine students completed a full year of pharmacy technician training, including classes, labs, and a summer externship at a CVS pharmacy. They are now in the process of taking the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam, and several have already been offered positions at their externship sites. Others expect to hear about potential job offers in coming months, which, for many, will provide financial support as they continue on to college. “I always wanted a job that was heavy on science and math, but also involved interacting with customers. This is the perfect combination – I get the best of both worlds,” commented graduate Kerriann Gobin.
