      Entrevista

After a phone screen, phone interview with the hiring manager and an online application process, I was invited to an in person interview, which consisted of a one on one with the hiring manager, testing with HR, and then an interview with the next level manager and a peer. The interview process was ...odd. There are several "gotchas!' built in. After signing off on my online application, I was asked to sign an authorization allowing them to review my Social Security wage history. Wow. Guess they have people inflating their salary history, but surely, there's a better way to verify this. There were also several "gotchas!" built into the testing, particularly the honesty/ethics test. I was asked to give a urine sample for drug testing AT THE INTERVIEW. Yup. Surprise! That was a new one. Not a problem for me, but it did make me wonder what problems they were having with their workforce that the felt that this guerrilla tactic is necessary. Finally, the invitation was open ended and had no specifics. (I have been provided with an agenda and the name of the interview panel at other firms, which is great in terms of being able to prepare. As I proceeded through the long afternoon, it became clear that the lack of specifics was because if you washed out at some earlier point - the testing, the drug screen, all the authorizations; you didn't proceed to the final stages. There has got to be a better way to handle this, because at several points in the the process, I was let sitting in a common area with no explanation and no idea what was happening next. At one point I was left alone for 30 plus minutes and considered getting up and leaving. Interview questions themselves were pretty standard - skills review and walk through resume history, followed by behavioral questions. Didn't get an offer, and I was so put off by the way I was treated at the interview, I was okay with it.
