I've had several interviews for different communications positions within Caterpillar. They all use STAR (or CAR) interview format: Situation, Task, Action, Result. It's crucial that you answer in this format or they will ask follow up questions to get you to expand upon your answer. Interviews are typically 3 interviewers taking turns asking you these behavioral questions for about 1 hour. It's only difficult if you aren't familiar with the STAR format, but I wasn't for my first interview and still got the job. The whole process from applying to getting an offer will likely take a least one month, if not longer. Don't give up hope if it's been a little while since you've heard from them!

Questions looked for specific aspects of work experience with information on personal accountability and actions taken for results. Interview included behavioral questions. For the most part content was very specific, utilizing the STAR method.
