Candidatei-me por meio de recrutador(a). O processo levou 2 dias. Fui entrevistado pela Checkmate (Los Angeles, CA) em set. de 2025
Entrevista
I was contacted by a recruiter who believed my background was an excellent match for a role she was sourcing. After reviewing the company and the job description, I found that I aligned closely with the listed requirements and considered myself a strong fit. Naturally, I was enthusiastic about the opportunity.
During my conversation with the recruiter, I was transparent about my strengths and areas for growth, and I requested a minor adjustment to the interview format that I believed would be mutually beneficial. Following that, I received no response for two days, after which the recruiter informed me without explanation that the company had decided not to move forward.
Given my strong interest in the role, I reached out to the company directly, only to be dismissed abruptly. While it is of course their prerogative to make hiring decisions as they see fit, the lack of communication and dismissive handling of the process came across as unprofessional. Skilled professionals in specialized areas are not easy to find, and their approach ultimately reflects more poorly on them than on me. In hindsight, I am glad this behavior surfaced early. It made clear that the organization is not one I would want to join at the expense of other opportunities.

Intiial phone conversation with a recruiter outside of Checkmate followed by panel with someone from HR and their technical TA team.
The questions were pretty standard over 30 minutes - typically assessing your skills with examples and a closing question from HR about your personality trait that would be best suited to the company. They said they wanted to move quickly and then ghosted me about the position until I reached out to the third party recruiter. I never received any feedback or update which was really disappointing and unprofessional.
In the job description they mentioned that the role requires you "have your own work setup" which actually means you need to bring your own laptop to the job which was a bit of a red flag for me from a security perspective.
This was a pretty frustrating experience to be ghosted after discussing next steps.

How do you have technical decisions when you're not an engineer?

They found me on Upwork and contacted me first. The process started with one HR interview, then I had 3 technical interviews and one final interview with the CEO.
I passed all the technical rounds and the CEO round too. The technical questions were good and tested my deep knowledge of programming and technology.
The CEO round was with Vishal, who was very nice and friendly. He explained things clearly and told me what they expected from the role. I really liked talking with him.
The main problem was with the HR team and management. At first, they told me a salary range, and I asked for something within that range. But later, they kept asking me to accept a lower salary. They even said I did better than they expected, but they still couldn't offer what they promised at the beginning. This was very disappointing.
They wanted me to work night shifts, which I was okay with. I gave interviews 4-5 times during late night hours and was helpful throughout the whole process. After our final talk about salary, they said they would get back to me, but they never did.
It felt like a complete waste of time. They first attracted me with a good salary offer, then showed what they could actually pay. They also kept me waiting like a backup option for too long.
It's been almost 3 weeks since our last discussion, and they still haven't given me a final answer. When I followed up, they said they were checking other candidates and would decide in one week. But I still haven't heard anything from them.RetryClaude can make mistakes. Please double-check responses.
