Complete waste of time, don't bother with this company. They ask you vague and leading questions, then make you take home test. Their expectations are that "this will take a few hours" but clearly they are fishing for someone who goes way over the top and spends their entire weekend on it to give you some super polished product. Zero feedback during the process, slow response times and unprofessional communication. Clearly looking for some Amazon agro-bro.

In any language(s) of your choice, write a working function that removes all duplicates from an unsorted list of email addresses. You may assume any input data structure that you like. Do not use built-in library functions that make the problem trivial. Do not google any answers to this, I want to see your own implementation.

I received an email asking for best days/times for a phone interview. A couple days after replying, I got another email from the recruiter, stating that she was on vacation, and I would have to wait until she got back. Perhaps a good thing to mention up front. When the time for the phone interview came, the recruiter called me half an hour early, and I called back as soon as I could, and listened to her act like I had missed our appointment. Next, I was sent an email with four questions to answer and a coding problem. The coding problem was to create a web page where you could enter a list of email addresses, and it would filter out the duplicates. The website needed to be deployed someplace publicly accessible, such as Heroku. After doing all of this, I received an emailing stating they would like to move forward and have me speak with one of their engineers, who was cc'd on the email, and was supposed to reach out to me. I never heard from him, and with how everything had gone, I decided to just move on, and speak with companies that were a little more organized.

Other than the rapid pace of change and cross-browser compatibility, what do you find most challenging or cumbersome about web development?
Was told there were several needs / openings, I was more than qualified and have built several of these needs for companies 20x larger than ChefSteps. Like many tech interviews my wealth of prior experience was set aside and the "wacky coding question" (having nothing to do with the ChefSteps business) I was given 15 minutes to solve somehow overshadowed my entire career in programming. Got the feeling they wanted only Amazon-esque alpha programmers, so in hindsight I feel like I dodged a culture-bullet.

Solve something arbitrary under pressure and we'll judge the language you choose to do it in.
