Phone screening followed by interview. Seemed like a large disconnect between who I talked to and what the role was (when asking about timeline). Received a general email rejection and no response when asked for feedback.

I excitedly applied to the role and received an invitation for a screening interview from a recruiter about 2 weeks after I submitted my application (only after sending an email to follow up about my application status). We had our interview the next day - it went very well and lasted about 45 minutes. They explained to me that the next step of the process included them sending the transcripts of their screening interviews to the hiring team, who would then decide who to offer 2nd interviews to. I followed up later that day to thank them, and received a response the next day. I was told I would likely hear back within a week of the interview, so I followed up nine days later as I had yet to hear anything. I received no response, so I followed up again a week later with both the recruiter and another member on the team I was in contact with - still no response from the recruiter. I sent another follow-up email to them over a week after that, and finally received a response that the hiring team was meeting that week and they hoped to have an answer for me soon. Hearing nothing, I followed up again with both the recruiter and the director of the team over a week later. Once again, no response from the recruiter. Finally, I decided my next option was to contact the person on the team that I had connected with earlier to ask them if they knew anything about position. Almost immediately after sending that message, I received a generic rejection email from the recruitment team. In total, it took 41 days (and 3 unanswered emails) for me to hear back about next steps (or lack thereof) from the day of my first interview. As I have spent my career working towards a role like this, it was really important for me to get feedback about my qualifications and my performance so that I could be a more competitive candidate in the future, so I sent a follow-up email asking for feedback. I have yet to receive a response. I am extremely passionate about Child Trends’ work and the work of the team I applied to - despite the kindness all three people from the organization I was in contact with showed me, I was very disappointed in the lack of communication and transparency. I hope things will change for the better soon as this organization is doing amazing work.

This was a standard academic job interview. I gave a job talk and interviewed with several panels. At the end, I thought they would take me to lunch, but the person shepherding me through the interview process handed me a bag of take-out and said they were too busy to go to lunch because it was proposal season. I think the outcome of my candidacy was determined prior to the interview. The job was advertised for several locations, including the city where I live. However, during the scheduling process, HR asked me where I'd like to be located (which I'd already indicated in my cover letter), and after I told the HR contact, she told me that location was no longer available because they'd filled the last seat in that office. I asked how that would work, since I was not available to relocate and was not interested in a fully remote position. There was a long silence.... So, all in all, I was not impressed with how they handled the interview process.
