#1 Screening Questions: Q) Tell me about yourself. A) Right here you need to say how the 13 characteristics reflect who you are. I suggest highlighting the ones that are hard to pick up on: BE YOURSELF and talk about YOU and YOUR goals for about 45-75 seconds, but for example: "Well, I really enjoy learning, being active, and I'm goal oriented. I prefer to surround myself with positive, happy, honest, smart people that build me up and motivate me to achieve my goals. (Talk about 1-3 important goals here) I am pursuing a degree in Business Administration, and I'm looking for a great business like Chipotle to begin my career, etc. . . (insert personal hobbies here) In my free time, I like to mountain bike, paint, and play basketball." [have a genuine smile and make good eye contact while you say this] Q) Why did you apply for Chipotle? Why do you want to work here? A) Tell them what they want to hear: (if you haven’t tried the food before your interview you have failed) 1st: I love the food, my favorite food here is the chicken burrito with a light touch of hot salsa. 2nd: I love the atmosphere here, there is such "HIGH ENERGY", everyone is so "RESPECTFUL", and "ENTHUSIASTIC". 3rd: I also love the high standards when it comes to the food and cleanliness at Chipotle. I love that the food is prepared fresh, and that the animals are all natural. Q) How would your friends describe you? A) Insert some appropriate humor here "Well, hopefully they would describe me how I described myself in your first question [get them to laugh and smile], but I think they would say that I’m loyal, caring, uplifting, and probably also highlight some of my interested like basketball. They would probably tell you that I strive to be the best at what I do, but that I'm also a team player and a big part of my success includes helping everyone on my team achieve their goals too." Q) Tell me about your last job. Q) What did you like the most? Why? A)"I really enjoyed being challenged to exceed expectations and the work ethic of the people I worked with. I try to be pretty aware of my surroundings and I’m always asking myself how I can do a better job, or help someone else who is getting behind. I work best in an environment with high standards, because I can be pretty "AMBITIOUS", but I also enjoy a team with a lot of camaraderie" Q) What did you like the least? Why A) (STAY AS POSITIVE AS POSSIBLE) "Well its hard for me to be negative, because I enjoyed working there and I feel I can get along with pretty much anyone within reason, but I guess what I liked the least was the lack of opportunity. Internal promotions were not really a big priority, and I don't want to blame that on anyone, there was a just a glass ceiling for advancement and I think Chipotle is growing fast and has a better suited environment for me to thrive in" Q) What was your boss like? A) (STAY AS POSITIVE AS POSSIBLE) "I liked my last supervisor a lot, again there wasn’t much opportunity for me to move up, by boss did a great job of keeping moral up, and would answer my questions when I would try to increase my knowledge of the job and learn more duties. That is why I like eating here, and that is why I want to work here” #2 The Tour: If you pass the screening you will be given a tour of the restaurant, if not the manager will send you on your way as politely as they know how. If you followed my outline word for word with positive body language, smiles, and mild laughter you should move on pretty easily from here. Pay close attention to what they point out. On the tour repeat back to them the highlights of what they are pointing out to show that you are aware. Ask a few questions such as “I’ve heard you squeeze fresh limes over your chips, is that true?” or “It seems like you cut everything by hand here, I’m excited to learn more about knife skills, does everyone learn knife skills here?” Also, anything that looks organized or clean you should complement them on. “I really like how all of your dry storage is organized and how neat the area looks” “I noticed you keep all of your boxes trimmed and presentable, this is why I want to work here”
