I found an internship advertisement for the Aviation Department through the career center at my university. I emailed the recruiter my resume, a cover letter, and a copy of my transcripts. A few weeks later I was called and invited to open interviews, held a week later, for the available summer internships. There were eight internships available in five or six of the department's different divisions. The candidates were seated together in a conference room, and the internship program director gave us an overview of the department and internship program (2016 was the first structured internship program). We were then individually invited to panel (2 people) interviews based on our resumes and specified areas of interest. I have a double-major, so I went to three different interviews. They lasted about 20 minutes each. At the end, candidates were invited to step into the hall and were either sent home or given an offer on the spot. Candidates who accepted were taken to fill out paperwork. We had a specific start date, which was about two weeks later.
